One Instagram model set the internet on fire for all the wrong reasons. She was hoping to gain more followers by posting an “edgy” video, but that backfired big time.
Julia Slonska hoped to increase her social media following by posting an “edgy” video. Her modeling career started taking off after she landed a few professional advertisement campaigns. Slonska enlisted the help of a friend to film the video footage in Warsaw’s Swiss Valley Park.
In the video, Slonska looks right into the camera and begins giggling as she uses a hammer to knock the nose off a 200-year-old angel statue. The couple then continues to giggle as the statue, now covered in graffiti and missing a nose, is left to be found by park authorities.
According to Metro, Slonska and her friend performed the stunt in order to gain social media popularity. The video of the vandalism went viral as social media users condemned the horrible behavior, with some calling her actions “dumb and brainless” and others agreeing that she should be arrested.
“There’s no cure for that degree of selfishness and stupidity,” one person commented on YouTube.
“I hope everyone involved gets in some sort of trouble. It’s so disrespectful,” added another.
“A great man built a magnificent sculpture all so his descendants could look upon with pride in their roots. Then this degenerate breaks it… Destroying your own history is the highest form of treason,” posted another critic.
After the backlash, the model made a groveling apology to everyone who was offended by her actions. “Seriously, I regret that I did it,” she said. “I’m so stupid. I will not say what was driving me, why I did it, because it is more of a private affair, but I really wanted to apologize to everyone.”
However, it was too little, too late for the Polish online bank mBank, which was rumored to have an advertising partnership with Slonaska. They decided to cut ties with Slonska and announced that they wouldn’t be working with her on future projects.
“We definitely do not support such behavior, and the appropriate services should deal with it. As for the responsibility for what the actress does many weeks after the completed photos are taken — we cannot be responsible for the individual choices of such people,” reps for the company said. “We do not plan to involve this girl in the next spots.”
Julia Slonska single-handedly destroyed a 200-year-old piece of art and laughed about it. Destroying history is no laughing matter. The statue survived two world wars but not an Instagram model in search of internet fame. There is no good reason to do what she did, and an apology simply isn’t enough.
The sculptor put in a lot of physical and psychological effort to make a single statue like that. Then a random teen girl with absolutely no purpose or ambition in life comes around and destroys it. People are getting more and more idiotic every day. There’s no cure for that degree of selfishness and stupidity. This is how you know that your culture is dying.
