Three women were ordering food at a restaurant in New York City when they suddenly flew into a rage — and it was all caught on camera. Police say the women grew violent, hospitalizing several employees — and the reason for their outburst is bizarre.
Employees at Bel Fries in Manhattan’s Lower East Side were sent to the hospital after a group of angry women trashed the establishment. The incident occurred shortly after 4 a.m. when the customers were told they’d have to pay a small fee for some extra sauce with their meals.
For the most part, restaurant workers have a relatively safe job. As for the occasional entitled customer going on a tirade about a wrong order, employees are generally able to handle conflict resolution themselves. However, every now and then, a patron becomes belligerent to the point at which law enforcement gets involved.
The New York Post reports that the women became belligerent after they were told that there was a $1.75 fee for extra sauce. The upcharge apparently enraged the customers, who proceeded to trash the restaurant and assault the workers. In the lobby, a crowd cheers the women on in their tirade as a camera captures it all.
One of the workers reportedly used their cell phone to record the event, showing the three women hurling objects at the employees and ripping apart the barrier before hopping the counter to attack the workers. The women are seen throwing glass bottles, a metal stool, and various items from the counter as the employees attempt to dodge the projectiles.
The women start off by chucking objects at the plastic barrier attached to the counter. They then tore the guard away as the alarm blared. One by one, the women jumped over the counter and confronted the workers, who retreated to the back. One employee can be heard warning the women, “You’re going to jail,” as they attempted to evade the airborne projectiles.
Incredibly, the women caused only around $250 worth of physical damage to the business. However, police say that their violent behavior left a 33-year-old female employee and a male employee with lacerations to their heads.
Pearl Ozoria, 27, of Manhattan, Chitara Plasencia, 25, of Brooklyn, and Tatiyanna Johnson, 23, of Brooklyn were arrested and charged with robbery and criminal mischief. Ozoria allegedly punched an arresting officer in the face, leading to her also being charged with assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, and disorderly conduct.
Both Plasencia and Johnson were charged with criminal possession of a weapon. Additional charges concerning the employees’ injuries were expected to follow, authorities revealed as the troubling incident was initially reported.
In a report days after the incident, it was revealed that Bel Fries had remained closed in the days that followed the tirade. The restaurant is located on Ludlow Street, which is surrounded by businesses catering to night-life activities. The company declined to comment on the incident.
It’s terrifying to see just how far people will take their entitlement. These women destroyed property and assaulted numerous people over something as trivial as a $1.75 upcharge. They unleashed their wrath on employees who had nothing to do with the prices at the establishment, injuring workers who were just trying to do their job. Hopefully, these women will learn their lesson as they receive their due punishment for the damage they’ve inflicted.
