A Malian immigrant broke into an elderly Jewish woman’s apartment and brutally beat her before picking her up and throwing her out a 3-story window to her death. However, the judge determined that the man isn’t responsible for his actions because he smoked marijuana.
When 66-year-old Sarah Halimi awoke to the sounds of someone breaking into her Paris apartment, she had no idea that she would soon come face-to-face with her killer. The French Jewess’ family had survived the effects of Hitler’s Nazi-Germany only to once again be confronted by bloodthirsty antisemitism.
Halimi rose from her bed to find 28-year-old Malian migrant Kobili Traore breaking down her door and rampaging through her home. The crazed man repeatedly shouted “Allahu akbar!” and referred to Halimi as “Satan” while beating the defenseless pensioner to a bloody pulp, according to Israel National News. After hours of torture, Traore finally picked up Halimi and threw her out of her third-story widow, victoriously yelling, “I’ve killed the shaitan (devil)!”
During the police investigation, Traore insisted that the Quran commanded him to kill Halimi. The victim’s daughter also revealed to police that Traore had targeted her mother because of her Jewish background and had referred to her as a “dirty Jewess” two years earlier when they passed each other in the apartment complex. From then on, Halimi tried to avoid Traore only to ultimately be hunted down and killed.
During his trial, Traore expressed no remorse. His religious and racial motivation was ignored, and he was subsequently sent to a psychiatrist to determine his sanity. Although he was deemed fit to stand trial and has no history of mental illness, he was quickly let off the hook for his heinous crimes.
Despite openly confessing that he murdered Halimi because he is Muslim and she is Jewish, denoting both a religious and racial hate crime, Traore was found to not be responsible for his actions because he smoked marijuana. According to Metro, the judge rejected the first psychiatrist’s determination that Traore was sane and ordered a second evaluation, which found him mentally unfit.
The evaluation cited the immigrant’s claim that he smoked up to 15 joints a day, which the doctor concluded impaired his mental function to the point that he shouldn’t be held liable for the murder. He was then transferred to a psychiatric hospital, ensuring that he will not be convicted for Halimi’s murder.
The assessments confirmed that, while Traore didn’t have mental illness as a result of the drug use, he didn’t have the mental capacity at the time of the murder to know that what he was doing was wrong. Additionally, Drs. Bensussan, Meyer-Buisan, and Rouillon agreed that Traore probably didn’t know that marijuana can cause hallucinations. As such, the judge ruled that the migrant acted upon “acute delirium” and was not in control of his actions.
Unsurprisingly, the ruling has sparked outrage across France as well as internationally. Most disturbing is the French authorities’ resistance in calling the attack an act of antisemitism. In fact, former police commissioner and founder of France’s Bureau for Vigilance Against Anti-Semitism announced that he and his colleagues “no longer have full confidence that anti-Semitic hate crimes in France are handled properly.”
Halimi’s surviving family members have been forced to live with the reality that their matriarch’s murderer will never see justice, much less the inside of a prison cell. Adding insult to injury, the court system that oversaw her case couldn’t even find the decency to call her murder an act of obvious antisemitism.
Antisemitism is flagrantly being ignored by European officials in an effort to protect multiculturalism, an ideal that has utterly failed throughout the West. Disturbingly, the most vulnerable and persecuted communities are being sacrificed for the fantasy that claims all cultures and creeds can live together in harmony.
