A mob of 11 teenagers brutally beat a 68-year-old man after he dozed off on a Chicago subway. However, the ultimate insult came when the state attorney’s office confirmed they “wouldn’t touch” the case for a disturbing reason.
After an elderly man nodded off on a subway, a group of 11 teenagers viciously beat him, leaving him with serious injuries. Despite capturing the horrific incident on camera, the state attorney’s office shockingly admitted that it didn’t have plans to go after the suspects.
According to Fox News, the near-fatal beating took place in a passenger car on Chicago’s red line train near the Argyle station on February 3, 2020. Police confirmed that a 68-year-old man was left in a pool of blood after a group of 11 teens launched a brutal attack on the unsuspecting victim.
Video footage captured the elderly man as he fell asleep only to be awakened by a teen girl trying to pickpocket him. The victim says he was afraid but told them, “don’t even think about it” before swinging at one of the teens and missing, prompting the gang to strike.
Bystanders can be seen looking on as the pickpocket suspect drags the man to the ground and pummels him before running to another car and returning with a group of friends. The gang surrounds the man, who has returned to his seat, landing countless blows on his face and torso. One male suspect even pulls himself up on the train’s bars in order to relentlessly kick the victim in the head.

The Chicago Police Department told Fox News that although the attack is being investigated, no arrests have been made. The spokesperson explained that the suspects remain on the loose because the victim “was unable to identify his attacker(s) due to his injuries.”
Even more disturbing was the response from the Cook County State Attorney’s Office. According to a police source, the state attorney’s office disclosed that it “wouldn’t touch” the case if the victim is unable to identify suspects or is unable to cooperate with investigators. When asked about the comment, the state attorney’s office simply answered, “We are unable to comment.”
The 68-year-old victim was left in a pool of blood until train workers came to his assistance at the Argyle station. Authorities then conducted an interview and were able to get his account of the attack. He was rushed to the hospital and treated for lacerations to his head and body soreness. Police confirmed that he also suffered blunt force trauma.
Authorities tracked down a group of teens near the station and detained them for questioning. However, after gathering reports, the suspects were released and returned to their homes. Disturbingly, only one witness is listed on the police report, despite other passengers being clearly visible in the video.
As disconcerting as it is to know that there are roving mobs of teens targeting vulnerable victims on the subway, it’s even more unsettling that the other passengers, who easily outnumber the attackers, are willing to stand by as someone is being beaten.
The state attorney’s office seems to have determined that the case wouldn’t go anywhere, likely leaving the elderly victim without justice. Unfortunately, justice deferred will only embolden criminals like the gang of teens to continue their reign of terror.
