As a conservative Christian, superstar Chris Pratt routinely angers his critics. So, when he was asked to respond to his online haters, it took only seven words to send Twitter into a meltdown.
Finding anyone remotely right-leaning in Hollywood is like finding a needle in a haystack. That’s why Chris Pratt is such an anomaly. Not only is he a conservative, but he also openly and unapologetically professes Christianity. Perhaps most incredibly, he hasn’t been canceled and has only increased in popularity.
Along with starring in Box Office smashes, Pratt is also famous for upsetting his critics and subsequently gloating at their inability to discourage him. Of course, much of the blowback comes from his online haters, and his most recent interaction was no exception.
During an interview with Page Six about his latest blockbusters, Pratt was asked if he knows just how much he has been criticized for his faith. His response was exactly what his haters didn’t want to hear, brilliantly referring once again to Scripture.
“I sure do, but that’s nothing new, that’s nothing new, you know?” he said. “If I was of this world, they would love me just like that but as it is, I’ve chosen out of this world. That’s John 15:18 through 20,” he shared. “That’s the way it is, nothing new, 2,000 years ago they hated him (Jesus), too.”
Expectedly, his critics pounced on the interview footage. Ignorant of the passage, haters proved not only Pratt’s point but also the biblical passage’s claim that unbelievers will hate those who follow Christ because Christ was hated.
“When you think he couldn’t possibly be any more of a prick, he compares himself to Jesus,” read one response.
“Am I being an idiot or does anyone else not see this as Chris Pratt essentially saying ‘I’m like Jesus’?” replied another hater.
Chris Pratt went on to explain how he deals with criticism, adding that it only strengthens his resolve to share the gospel.
“Oh, just how you deal with anything. Like a rhino, stick your head down, you keep driving forward, you have thick skin and if anyone gets in your way, you stick the horn right up their ass!” he joked. “When it comes to rejection, I was trained in the crucible of door-to-door sales some 25 years ago. So, you can’t turn me away, there’s no stopping us.”
Despite the hate, Pratt isn’t discouraged in the slightest. In fact, he continues to land hit roles in blockbuster films, garnering praise even from those who don’t share his personal views.
Chris Pratt is truly a diamond in the ruff. Hollywood is filled with staunch atheists who loudly voice their hatred of God and Christianity to the thunderous applause of the media and their fans.
The cost is great for any celebrity who professes Christ, and cancel culture has repeatedly tried to come for Pratt. We can only pray that he remains faithful to his beliefs without backing down to the outrage mob.
