A mother was called to the school after her daughter hit a male classmate in the face, giving him a bloody nose. However, as soon as the mom saw the boy’s blood-covered face, she gave a brilliant response that quickly went viral.
No matter how well a school is run, stuffing dozens of children into a classroom will inevitably result in some sort of conflict. Of course, this is exactly why educators are trained to handle issues between students, especially when it comes to physical contact.
When a mother received a phone call from the school, she was informed that her 15-year-old daughter struck another student, resulting in injury. However, after rushing to the principal’s office to reprimand her child, she quickly discovered that the scene hadn’t quite played out as she had initially been told.
During a particularly busy shift at the hospital, a nurse was notified that her child’s school had called and insisted that she respond to an “incident” involving her daughter, which was originally documented on Not Always Right. Despite the fact that it was impossible for her to leave the hospital to take the call, the school administrator was indignant over having to wait for her to respond.
Mother: “Is she ill or injured? Can it wait until my shift is over in two hours?”
Administrator: “[Daughter] has struck another pupil. We’ve been trying to call you for 45 minutes. It really is very serious.”
Upon the school’s insistence, the mother rushed to the principal’s office to see her daughter, her daughter’s teacher, counselor, principal, and the boy with his parents. Just as the administrator had said, the boy had been hit by her daughter, leaving his nose bloodied and his face red.
Principal: “Mrs. [My Name], how kind of you to FINALLY join us!”
Mother: “I’ve spent the last hour administering over 40 stitches to a seven-year-old who was beaten by his mother with a metal ladle and then I had to deal with the police regarding the matter. Sorry for the inconvenience.”
Realizing that her excuse for being late was legitimate, the principal explained the reason for the meeting. Apparently, the 6-foot-tall, 160lb boy had repeatedly snapped her 5-foot-tall, 84-lb daughter’s bra strap so hard that it came undone, prompting the girl to finally punch him in the face twice.
However, instead of holding the boy accountable for his treatment of the girl, everyone in the room blamed her daughter. It was then that the mother had the perfect response for their flagrant disregard of the initial abuse that led her daughter to defend herself.
Mother: “Oh. And you want to know if I’m going to press charges against him for sexually assaulting my daughter and against the school for allowing him to do it?”
The boy provoked the girl by snapping her bra.
Clearly not expecting her response, the room quickly swelled with voices attempting to deflect the blame from the boy back onto her daughter. The boy’s mother then began crying, likely realizing the seriousness of the situation.
Teacher: “I don’t think it was that serious.”
Counselor: “Let’s not over-react.”
Principal: “I think you’re missing the point.”
Ignoring their floundering, the mother turned to her daughter and asked for an explanation. The girl not only confirmed her teacher’s account of the incident but exposed his disturbing handling of it.
Daughter: “He kept pinging my bra. I asked him to stop but he didn’t, so I told Mr. [Teacher]. He told me to ‘ignore it.’ [Boy] did it again and undid my bra so I hit him. Then he stopped.”
Outraged by this revelation, the mother turned to her daughter’s teacher and demanded an explanation for allowing the abuse to continue. She then brilliantly gave an example of similar sexual misconduct, putting it into perspective for the negligent educator.
Mother: “You let him do this? Why didn’t you stop him? Come over here and let me touch the front of your trousers.”
Teacher: “What?! No!”
Mother: “Does that seem inappropriate to you? Why don’t you go and pull on Mrs. [Councelor]’s bra right now. See how fun it is for her. Or on that boy’s mum’s bra. Or mine. You think just because they’re kids it’s fun?”
In an attempt to quell the escalation, the principal returned the culpability to the girl, reminded the mother that her daughter “still beat another child,” to which she replied, “No, she defended herself against a sexual attack.” At this moment, both the teacher and the boy’s parents appeared ashamed and contrite, apparently finally understanding the severity of the boy’s actions.
Mother: “He’s a foot taller than her and twice as heavy. How many times should she have let him touch her? If the person who was supposed to help and protect her in a classroom couldn’t be bothered what should she have done? He pulled her bra so hard it came undone.”
After making her point, the mother told the principal that she would be leaving with her daughter. She reiterated that her child had done nothing wrong, adding that she would be reporting the incident to the school board. As for the boy who touched her daughter, she gave him an unmistakable message.
Mother: “And if you—” *turning to the boy* “—EVER touch my daughter again I WILL have you arrested for sexual assault. Do you understand me?”
The board was horrified by the school’s handling of the incident, and the woman’s daughter was moved into a different class, away from the teacher and the student. Thanks to this mama bear’s clever response, the girl is thriving and the school has learned not to blame victimized students for defending themselves in the future.
