While many celebrities consider themselves left-leaning, not all are vocal about their political opinions. However, there are some celebs whose woke activism has blown up in their faces in brutally ironic ways.
10. Chris Evans
When Chris Evans was cast for the role of Buzz Lightyear in the animated movie of the same name, he knew the torch was being passed from beloved, openly conservative actor Tim Allen. As such, Evans wasted no time in announcing his support of LGBT themes in children’s movies, this time by way of a kiss between two lesbian characters. Incredibly, this move backfired as fans vocalized their disapproval. Ultimately, the film was considered a Box Office flop that forced Pixar to do a “lot of soul-searching” about future products.
9. Robert De Niro
To say that Robert De Niro has been an outspoken critic of Donald Trump is an understatement. The aging actor repeatedly warned the president that he would “like to punch him in the face” given the opportunity. Unfortunately for De Niro, his tough-guy persona translates better to the big screen than to the political sphere. His constant rants have made the once-beloved actor off-putting, and his popularity has taken a nosedive since Trump first took office. Now, he’s reportedly taking movie roles just to be able to pay off his taxes and devastating divorce.
8. Armie Hammer
Armie Hammer was a promising actor whose rise to fame seemed to be just beginning. Like many left-leaning celebs, he joined his cohorts in mocking Donald Trump and calling him a “racist” and going as far as to label him a “rapist.” The jokes didn’t age well, however, when Hammer himself was accused of raping and beating a woman. Although he denied the allegations, the irony is incredibly thick for a man who saw nothing wrong with hurling the same accusation against someone else without evidence.
7. Amy Schumer
Many may have forgotten about Amy Schumer, and it’s not without good reason. The formerly popular comedian and budding actress was once a staple in Hollywood, especially when she labeled Donald Trump as a racist. Like clockwork, Schumer’s own words came back to haunt her when social media users dug up her own racially-charged jokes against Hispanics, Asians, and African-Americans. Eventually, she began seeing audience members walk out, fans dwindle, and movies flop, which led to a quiet withdrawal from the spotlight.
6. Jemele Hill
Possibly sitting at the farthest position on the left’s ever-shifting scale, Jemele Hill gives her political cohorts a run for their money. During her brief time on SportsCenter, the former anchor consistently took to social media to attack Donald Trump as a “white supremacist” and America as a “Nazi Germany.” After an initial suspension by ESPN for poorly misrepresenting the network, she was promptly fired. Unsurprisingly, she played the victim, blaming racism and misogyny for her dismissal. In fact, she even blamed her failure on the company’s “conservative culture,” which many found ironic and laughable.
5. Alec Baldwin
As a seasoned actor, Alec Baldwin has gained a forceful following over the course of his Hollywood career. As such, he has used his fame to support numerous far-left policies, including gun control. Ironically, this stance proved hypocritical when Baldwin was charged with firing a “prop gun” and killing a woman on set while filming the movie “Rust.” Since the tragedy, he has continued to speak out about gun violence. Unfortunately, his hypocrisy has proven too much for his leftist fans and colleagues, who have publically called for him to stop advocating in their name.
4. Chrissy Teigen
Former swimsuit model Chrissy Teigen suddenly became a celebrity voice of the left when she began using Twitter to trash-talk Donald Trump, her favorite insults being “p***y a** b*tch” and “f**king idiot.” For years, the left roared in laughter and applause when Teigen would hurl her cattiest jabs at the president. However, she suffered an enormous fall from grace when they discovered she was using the same bullying tactics toward several female celebs who suffered abuse as children. Teigen was promptly dropped from major brand deals and has stayed down ever since.
3. Ellen DeGeneres
For years, Ellen DeGeneres was a beloved icon on the left. The quirky gay television host knew how to take harsh jabs at Donald Trump while maintaining a sort of innocent and kind demeanor. Of course, this proved to be a facade. Not long after criticizing Trump for being a “bully,” the liberal sweetheart suffered a line of victims coming forward to expose her own manipulative tactics. According to nearly a dozen former employees, DeGeneres tyrannized employees for years by bullying them, ignoring racist behavior, and turning a blind eye to sexual assault and misconduct.
2. Amber Heard
Leftists hastily propped up actress Amber Heard as the face of the “me too” movement after she accused superstar Johnny Depp, alleging years of mental and physical abuse, during their divorce. Her hope was to seemingly not only bankrupt the beloved actor but also to destroy his formidable reputation and career. Shockingly, the tables were turned when Depp won his defamation case against Heard after the jury was presented with damning evidence of her own manipulative and violent tendencies. Not only was Heard’s career pretty much over but she was single-handedly credited with bringing down #MeToo, much to the left’s embarrassment.
1. Meghan Markle
After years of struggling to make it big in Hollywood, Meghan Markle finally found her way into the limelight when she married Britain’s beloved Prince Harry. It didn’t take long before she twisted her position in the royal family as a means to push leftist policies. Although she quickly became the darling of the left, her blatant hypocrisy on issues such as climate change and wealth inequality, and her perpetual self-victimization just as quickly earned her the title of one of the most hated women, which she has admitted is “so painful.”
