Although the details were few and far between, that didn’t stop a video captured during a Saturday college football game between Texas Southern and Jackson State from going viral. The short clip, which didn’t even last an entire minute, featured a Texas Southern University tuba player who was being put to the test by an aggressive Jackson State fan and very quickly reached his breaking point.

The video footage, taken from the stands, begins with the Texas college band’s tuba player bouncing along to the music as the Jackson State fan starts yelling at him, the NY Post reported. As the fan aggressively yells at the tuba player, he tries to remain composed and attempts to continue playing with the band. However, he eventually decides he has had enough.

As seen in the short clip, the fan was yelling at the tuba player moments before all hell seemed to break loose—at least for a brief moment. With the fan in his face, the Texas Southern tuba player very quickly decides to bring the Jackson State heckler’s outburst to an end, punching the bully in the stands.

Having had enough from the fan, the Texas Southern musician swiftly knocks out his obnoxious tormentor during the Saturday football game before he nonchalantly continues his performance, playing his instrument as if the altercation never happened, without seeming to even miss a beat.

Although it’s not known what was said before the tuba player decided to throw hands, “the Texas Southern tuba player says something to the man before swiftly punching him four times in the face,” the Post reported, adding, “In one recording of the incident, the band member can be heard telling the aggressive fan, ‘F–k off, b—h.'”

After the repeated punches from the Texas tuba player, the heckler stumbled back several feet in the stands. Initial reports indicated that it was “unclear” whether the Jackson State fan sustained any physical injuries from the scuffle. However, it’s quite likely his ego took a blow as the embarrassing moment went viral. After all, it’s unlikely a mouthy bully enjoys getting his comeuppance from a guy in the school band.

The likely brutal blow to the man’s ego was assumably made worse by the fact that it went viral for the world to see. Instead of being seen as a tough guy who embarrassed the band, he gets to go down in infamy as the agitator who bit off more than he could chew when he decided to bully a tuba player in the college band.

Hopefully, this serves as a lesson to other obnoxious fans who think it’s cute to badger their opposition. You might just get put in your place with the entire world getting to witness video evidence of your outburst as well as your consequences. That’s got to be humiliating.

As for the tuba player, initial reports did not indicate whether police responded to the incident or if any action was taken against the band member, but we hope not. While we don’t typically condone violence, we do believe you reap what you sow and that you should be able to protect yourself from unwarranted, unwanted, unjust, and unnecessary attacks. In other words, bullies are an exception.

As far as I’m concerned, a heckler who is aggressively screaming in someone’s face while they perform ranks right up there with assault, and in my humble opinion, the victim should be able to defend themselves against their aggressor. So, although Texas Southern University’s football team ended up losing to Jackson State, 21-19, their band had at least one winner that night, in my eyes. Hats off to the tuba player who didn’t tolerate unwarranted disrespect!
