A Florida teacher was arrested on allegations of soliciting sex from a 2-year-old child in a case that can only be described as despicable.
Xavier Donte Alexander, a 27-year-old fourth-grade teacher at Grove Park Elementary School in Palm Beach Gardens, was arrested after the Florida elementary school teacher allegedly solicited sex from a 2-year-old child online, the Associated Press reported. According to authorities, Alexander not only solicited sex with the toddler, but he also traveled to a motel to meet the minor — a 2-year-old girl — for sex.
Unfortunately for Alexander, but fortunately for the rest of us, it all ended up being part of a sting operation. He was arrested on felony charges of soliciting sex with a minor and traveling to meet a minor for sex. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) announced the teacher’s arrest after Alexander reportedly tried to have sex with the 2-year-old, shocking and frightening parents.
The fact that the suspect was an elementary school teacher wasn’t the worst of it. In addition to being a teacher at the Grove Park Elementary School for six months prior to his arrest, according to his LinkedIn profile, Xavier Donte Alexander also previously directed after-school care and was a nanny-for-hire, WPTV reported. According to officials, he advertised his babysitting services on Care.com and other nanny websites. Detectives believe there could be additional victims.
“We have just arrested 27 y/o Xavier Donte Alexander for solicitation of a minor and traveling to meet a minor, 2 years of age. Xavier is also a 4th grade teacher at Grove Park Elementary. He also is a babysitter on http://Care.com and other nanny websites,” PBSO tweeted. “Detectives believe there could be additional victims,” the sheriff’s office added in a follow-up tweet, urging anyone who believes their child could also be a victim of solicitation of a minor to contact Detective Malory Wildove.
According to the arrest report, the sting operation developed after a man with a two-year-old daughter put an ad on Craigslist, looking for someone to share the cost of a hotel room with him. The father told investigators that he and his daughter needed a place to stay until he moved into a new home. “No weirdos or drugs please, 420 friendly,” the ad read. That same day, the father received a text message from a man named “Matthew,” inquiring about the hotel room.
“So would it be just you me and her?” a text message from the suspect read. After the father said yes, the suspect responded with another text, asking, “would I ever be alone with your daughter?” When the dad said no, the suspect sent another text which read, “Ah well I think ill go elsewhere good luck.”
The odd exchange caused the father to contact the sheriff’s office, and a deputy, posing as the father, then started up a conversation with the suspect, a transcript of which was provided by ABC News 4:
Deputy [pretending to be the girl’s father]: Your not gonna hurt her right? shes young
Suspect: No i wont hurt her
Deputy: I just want to know what your plans are so i know
Suspect: Just spend time alone with her
Deputy: No problem im fie with it
Suspect: Cool what time are you free tomorrow
Deputy: Ive done somethings with her before so shes been there before youll at least wear a condom right? I wanna know shes safe
Suspect: Yes i will
Deputy: ok no problem is 6pm cool
Suspect: that works, let me know which hotel at 8:00PM
Deputy: Motel 6 in Lantana
Following the disturbing conversation, investigators instructed the father to text the suspect, telling him that his daughter was sick and in the hospital for a few days. “Seems a bit suspicious. But okay. Any pics of her so I know its real?” the suspect responded via text. The father replied “no,” but the suspect seemed undeterred. Over the next few days, Alexander reached out several times to check on the condition of the father’s daughter, according to investigators.
A deputy then posed as the girl’s father again, sending a text to the suspect to say the girl was getting released from the hospital and arranging to meet the suspect at the Super 8 Motel on Hypoluxo Road in Lantana the next morning. Deputies with PBSO’s Tactical Operation Team greeted Alexander as he arrived at the motel, and he admitted to replying to an ad on Craigslist for an opportunity to have a sexual encounter with a two-year-old girl, according to the arrest report.
Alexander also admitted to buying a box of condoms at the gas station across the street and withdrawing $200 from an ATM to help pay for two nights at the hotel. Of course, Alexander tried to excuse his actions, saying he had a sexual addiction and that women, men, and bestiality no longer satisfied his needs. Although he admitted that he became sexually aroused when babysitting children in the past by grazing over their genitals on top of their clothing or giving them wedgies, he claimed that he’d never touched a child in a sexual manner.
Sadly, it seems there may have been warning signs related to Alexander’s sexual depravity. According to a coworker, who spoke with CBS12, she found it unusual that Alexander would meet alone with certain boys from his classroom. In a statement to the public, the Palm Beach County School District said it is “shocked and appalled” by the accusations, adding that Alexander was suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
Following his arrest, Xavier Donte Alexander was ordered held at the Palm Beach County Jail on a $1 million bond, according to The Blaze. He was reportedly being represented by the Palm Beach County Public Defender’s Office, which did not immediately respond to an email from the AP seeking comment. If convicted on both charges, Alexander faces 20 years in prison. Of course, if there are additional victims like detectives believe, there could be more charges to come.
