Whoopi Goldberg made a “dramatic” exit from Twitter, citing Elon Musk’s “messy” takeover and complaining that “certain attitudes aren’t being blocked.” However, it backfired, big time.

Whoopi Goldberg announced she was officially leaving Twitter after Elon Musk took control of the platform. The View host decided it was important to share why she had to exit the platform and turned it into a major announcement on her ABC talk show.

During a segment on The View, Goldberg said she decided to delete her Twitter account because of how “messy” the platform has become under Musk’s control. “I’m getting off today because I just feel like, you know, it’s so messy, and I’m tired of now having had certain kinds of attitudes blocked, and now they’re back on,” Goldberg said.

Goldberg was upset comedian Kathy Griffin was suspended. “[S]ince Elon Musk took over Twitter… the place is a mess,” she said. “He’s putting his $8 charge for blue check verification on hold. First, it was going to be $20, [but] now it’s going to be $8. So. He also suspended Kathy Griffin for impersonating him on a parody account,” she alleged. However, Griffin did not impersonate Musk from a clearly labeled parody account. She used her own account, equipped with a blue check verification, to impersonate Musk.

Goldberg continued to explain her decision. “I’m gonna get out, and if it settles down enough and I feel more comfortable, maybe I’ll come back,” she declared. “But as of tonight, I’m done with Twitter,” she said. However, the veteran actress wasn’t finished ranting. Goldberg then endorsed the idea that “some speech” is not “OK free speech,” suggesting that Twitter or the government has an obligation to regulate the content on Twitter.

In the end, Whoopi Goldberg reiterated her departure from the platform. “All speech is not free speech. Some speech is not OK free speech,” she said. “You know what? This is our problem, but it ain’t my problem today, because I’m out!”

According to The Blaze, this “sanctimonious” exit didn’t end well for Goldberg. “The response to her decision reminds one of the adage: ‘If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?'” they reported. “Indeed, people noted that Goldberg’s presence will not be missed because they didn’t even know she had an account. Others celebrated Goldberg’s decision.”

“Thank you, @WhoopiGoldberg,” former U.S. ambassador Richard Grenell said. “[P]eople were only on Twitter to follow the gentle musings of Whoopi its all over now,” journalist Tim Pool mocked. “Whoopi Goldberg announced she has left Twitter because of Elon Musk. I just want to thank Elon for doing such a good job at running off these crazy entitled liberals,” comedian Terrance Williams wrote.

“Whoopi Goldberg was on Twitter?” another person reacted. “I have never seen a Tweet by Whoopi Goldberg. I honestly didn’t know she had an account here,” another person commented. “Didn’t she also say that she was going to be moving to Canada if Trump was elected president? I’m still waiting for that one,” one person pointed out.

Another social media user had this reaction: “Whoopi gone from Twitter? oh nooo.. what will I do… How will we survive without.. wait. oh look, more people than ever are joining Twitter.. pass the popcorn.. which sanctimonious useless Hollywood ‘star’ will be next to exit stage ‘left’? don’t let the door hit ya….”

Goldberg actually made good on her promise, and her account with more than 1.6 million followers has since been deactivated. According to Breitbart, Goldberg is not the only left-wing celebrity having a public meltdown and leaving Twitter over Musk’s takeover of the company. Model Gigi Hadid announced her exit from Twitter, saying it has become a “cesspool of hate & bigotry.” Debra Messing, Mark Ruffalo, Tea Leoni, Shonda Rhimes, and Alex Winter are also among the left-wing elitists who have pledged to leave Twitter in the wake of Musk’s acquisition of the platform.
