A teacher appears to humiliate an angelic 8-year-old pigtailed girl in front of her class on video. That is until she gets the ultimate revenge. This mean man learned the meaning of instant karma the hard way — or did he? Perhaps everything is not as it appears. Watch the video closely and decide.
No one likes a bully, especially one who targets smaller, weaker individuals while abusing a position of authority. That’s likely why a video took off with lightning speed across the internet after a Russian teacher appeared to be captured on camera as he violently berated a little girl in front of her peers.
“When bad things happen, most people try to ride it out and just endure it. Others run from the situation, but sometimes neither of those options is the right choice. Sometimes you need to fight back!” The Laugh Bible reports. “Violence is seldom the answer, especially when there are children involved. But at the same time, you have to stand up for yourself and not let people walk all over you.”
“The best option is often to confront people with words. Some bullies back down when they have to own up to their actions in public and have their cowardly behavior exposed for all to see,” they add, basing their commentary on what’s seen in the clip.
It seems they chose to take the events that were recorded at face value, even though they admit they “don’t know if it’s staged or not,” but add, “I don’t think it matters much. The important thing is the great message!” We’ll give them that, it’s a great message — but perhaps in a way that many news outlets didn’t consider.
The clip they are referencing depicts a little girl in pigtails, standing in front of her class at school as her Russian teacher rips her a new one for not understanding the lesson on the board. She’s obviously uncomfortable and humiliated by her teacher’s harsh words as she stares at the floor. Unfortunately, he’s just getting started.
The caustic Russian teacher continues to embarrass his pupil, but then, the situation goes from bad to worse as things get physical. The educator violently tries to drill the lesson into the girl’s head — literally — as he pokes his finger aggressively into her head. The teacher becomes increasingly abusive, but unfortunately for him, when the girl decides she’s had enough, he’s the one left humiliated.
Leaving viewers stunned, the Russian teacher’s victim decided to take action after she was prodded one too many times. She strikes back, delivering a foot to her bully’s groin, shocking everyone, before she runs off. Appearing to have received his comeuppance, people applaud since the teacher went too far. However, as is usually the case, there’s more to the story than meets the eye, and sometimes, the truth is what you don’t see.
As many outlets and social media users alike praise the poetic justice and cheer for the little girl, who seemingly gave her bully of a teacher what he deserves with the swift kick to his most sensitive parts, they missed something rather important. And, as they laugh at the mean man who met his match, it seems the joke’s on them.
If you thought the clip was too good to be true, you’d be right, according to Radie Free Europe Radio Library (RFERL). While Russia, like many other places, has its share of endemic bullying in the military, within law enforcement, and even at schools, this isn’t one of those cases, even though many news outlets, including The Independent and Huffington Post, thought it was.
The fact that the situation appears to be captured on a mobile phone leads to the first indicator that something is off. Seemingly captured from the second row, the camera work is presumed to be that of one of the girl’s classmates. That’s an awfully steady hand for an 8-year-old, who would likely be trembling, scared that they might be next. Another warning sign is the classmate who sticks his tongue out right on cue. Lastly, the girl also suspiciously goes for the Russian teacher’s crotch rather than the obvious target for children, which would be to aim straight for the shins that are more within their leg’s reach.
“And sure enough, the video turns out to be a fiendishly well-distributed promotion for a new Russian cable and satellite TV channel aimed at kids. It’s called simply ‘Ю,’ the letter ‘U’ in Cyrillic. The slogan (‘Ю – ЭТО ТЫ’) is a play on English and Russian: ‘U – That’s You,'” RFERL reveals, adding that “you” is the word the terrifying teacher is giving his lesson on in the video.
“It’s a cautionary tale for Western journalists in credulity,” they add, giving a “hats off to the PR agency behind the ruse.” Indeed, there are quite a few things to be learned here. Yes, the lesson on bullying and defending one’s self still applies whether this was a “hoax” or not, but we also learn that we must be careful not to judge anything we see until we investigate further. Even major news outlets can get it wrong, and with the power of the internet, misinformation can travel at the speed of light. Furthermore, perception really is everything.
