After forcing himself on a helpless teen girl, a rapist’s plan was cut short when he was left utterly humiliated by his victim’s most unlikely “secret weapon.”
When a vulnerable teen was attacked, she assumed that there was no way of stopping the sexual assault that was about to take place. Having been home alone at the time, the young woman attempted to fight off her rapist to no avail. However, just when she thought she would suffer the unimaginable fate, the most unlikely of heroes came to her rescue.
In Diyarbakir, Turkey, an 18-year-old woman, who is referred to as H.T in an effort to protect her identity, was home by herself when her sister’s son-in-law suddenly attacked her. Knowing that any family members were out of earshot, the 20-year-old man seized the opportunity to rape the helpless teen. Unfortunately for him, the house wasn’t as empty as he thought.
According to Hurriyet Daily News, the attacker was just about to rape the teen girl when her cat named Minnoş suddenly pounced on him, thwarting his sinister plot by launching a literal cat fight. The beloved feline’s bites and scratches were apparently enough to convince the attacker to immediately abandon the assault.
Incredibly, the cat’s efforts served as a distraction and deterrent, allowing his master the chance to escape and notify the authorities. Thanks to Minnoş, the girl was spared rape and perhaps a worse fate.
“I was faced with a villain, a pervert. He could have killed me but my cat saved my life by attacking him. [Minnoş] is my hero,” H.T. told reporters.
The young woman explained that her husband gave her Minnoş as a gift 3 years earlier. Since then, the cat has been treated as a member of the family. Incredibly, the four-legged relative has now repaid his owners in the best way possible.
“People say cats are ungrateful. But in fact it is people who are ungrateful. Animals are loyal. Minnoş sees me as her mother. She is worth the world to me and she will always be with us,” H.T. added.
Although the woman attributes her escape entirely to Minnoş, the court disregarded the significance of the cat’s intervention. In fact, the lawyer Deniz Emine Kayar lamented that the prosecutor evaluated the case as “sexual abuse” instead of “sexual assault,” arguing that the attacker’s decision not to rape his victim was completely uninfluenced.
“The action was prevented because of the cat’s attack. But it was evaluated by court as if the suspect voluntarily changed his mind. The cat was not taken into consideration before reaching a verdict,” she said, underlining that being forced to surrender is very different from giving up voluntarily.
The attacker eventually received 7.5 years in prison for sexual abuse. However, the victim’s attorney has vowed to appeal the sentence, arguing that he should receive a harsher punishment since it was the cat’s efforts that stopped him and not his own conscience.
Word of Minnoş and his heroic intervention soon spread across the globe, changing the way that many view cats. While felines are often regarded as aloof or even antipathetic toward their owners, this courageous mouser has proven that this simply isn’t the case for all cats.
