After repeatedly raping an 8-year-old girl, a man was arrested once the child became pregnant with his baby two years later. However, while he was being sentenced, the unapologetic pedophile blamed his child victim for everything, offering the judge a disturbing excuse for why it was her fault.
When 33-year-old Jennifer Hand’s daughter was just 8 years old, her boyfriend, 34-year-old Nicholas Deon Thrash, began molesting the girl. Disturbingly, Hand knew that her depraved lover was raping her daughter after the Marion Police Department in Georgia discovered Thrash’s DNA inside the child’s underwear, according to WXIA.
While the search for Thrash continued, Hand was ordered to prevent her boyfriend from having any contact with her daughter if he returned. Instead, the lovesick mother not only moved her pedophile beau into her Indiana home, but she also let him continue his debauchery.
After two years of horrific sexual abuse, the then 10-year-old girl became pregnant with Thrash’s baby. In an effort to destroy any evidence of his abuse, Thrash took the terrified young girl to get an abortion, where he was turned away. It was then that Hand hatched a plan to protect her boyfriend, accusing her daughter of conceiving via a classmate.
Fortunately, a pro-life demonstrator outside of the abortion clinic reported the child’s pregnancy to the authorities, leading to Thrash’s arrest and a DNA test confirming that he is the father. The girl gave birth to a healthy baby boy when she was just 11 years old, allowing a loving family to foster the infant. Sadly, the girl then spent some time in a mental health facility for exhibiting suicidal behavior.
Thankfully, Thrash was convicted of 10 counts of child molestation and was sentenced to a whopping 160 years in prison, ensuring that he will die behind bars. However, during his sentencing, which he and his attorney are now appealing for being “too long,” Thrash gave a sickening excuse for his depravity.
During sentencing, Thrash was removed from the courtroom for repeatedly screaming that his child victim was to blame for the rapes because she was “promiscuous.” After his removal from the courtroom, Thrash’s attorney argued that his sentence was too harsh and that he was improperly removed from the trial, despite his relentless outbursts, The Washington Post reports.
“Obviously, I am extremely pleased with the sentence,” Grant County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Lisa Glancy said at the time. “One-hundred-and-sixty years is what I asked for. Based on the facts and the egregious nature of the crime, I thought it was warranted. I am pleased for the child.”
As for Hand, she pleaded guilty to charges of neglect, aiding child molestation, and assisting a criminal, allowing her to receive a reduced punishment. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The victim is now 13 years old and anticipates being reunited with her son. She will undergo a life-skills program in order to learn how to take care of her child and learn basic life skills she would otherwise learn from her mother.
Her grandmother explained that she is “in good spirits” and is recovering well from her trauma. However, as her grandmother points out, she is still just a child herself, according to IBTimes.
“She came out and asked: ‘Can I get my Barbies?’ I said: ‘Of course you can.’ She is still a little girl that wants to play that has to grow up overnight,” she said.
The prosecution is confident that the appeals court will uphold Thrash’s 160-year sentence. Due to the serious nature of his crimes and his admitted remorselessness, he undoubtedly should never step foot outside of prison.
