While dropping off children for church choir practice, a babysitter was suddenly attacked by a screaming vegan activist, who brandished a knife and stabbed her repeatedly. It was only after the attacker was apprehended by police that she told them it was all because she was offended.
As a vegan activist, Meredith Lowell has spent the latter part of her young life advocating for animal rights. In fact, the 35-year-old Ohio woman lives the lifestyle as not only a strict diet but also as a civil rights movement on behalf of the animal kingdom.
When she isn’t protesting for the protection of four-legged fur babies and fowl, Lowell spends her time scouting out offenders of her vegan ideology. However, as a babysitter was dropping off the children at a local church for choir practice, the diehard activist suddenly spotted the opportunity to showcase her dedication to the cause.
Without provocation, Lowell suddenly brandished a knife and began attacking a female church-goer who had sat down in the auditorium, stabbing the woman twice in the arm and once in the stomach, Inquisitr reports. According to local police, Lowell flew into a rage and set upon the woman because she believed that her victim was wearing fur boots, which offended her vegan beliefs.
Cleveland Heights Police Chief Anne Mecklenburg confirmed that Lowell targeted the unnamed woman because she saw the texture of her boots and thought they were made out of an animal hide. However, it wasn’t revealed whether the shoes actually contained animal fur or were simply made of convincing synthetic material, Cincinnati.com reports.
“It is our belief the motive behind the attack was believed to be [the victim] wearing fur. It’s a little different. It’s going to take a lot more legwork by our detectives but they are actively looking into everything,” she said.
Lowell had finished stabbing her victim before a man wrestled her to the floor and held her down until police arrived. Church members reportedly thought that Lowell was only “punching or shoving” the victim before walking away. Even the victim didn’t realize she had been stabbed until she looked down and saw the blood. The victim’s condition is unknown.
Lowell has been charged with attempted murder and felonious assault. Her bond was set at $1 million. However, this isn’t her first rodeo. According to the police, she has a lengthy criminal history that includes violent acts in response to fur fashion.
In 2012, Lowell attempted to hire a hitman to kill someone she suspected of wearing fur. After an undercover FBI agent posed as a hired killer, she was arrested in a sting. She was then ordered to undergo psychological evaluations.
While in police custody, Lowell allegedly slipped a note to one of the guards, promising to kill another fur-wearer if she were ever freed. She also alluded to trying to kill them herself if she couldn’t find someone to get the job done.
Most disturbingly, Lowell was later deemed incompetent to stand trial. However, the judge decided that she was not a danger to herself or others, allowing her to walk free without jail time.
Lowell has repeatedly promised to kill and even tried several times without success. She also not only expresses no remorse but vows to continue her murderous plot. She should never again be allowed to see the light of day.
