Although it’s the home of the “Happy Meal,” McDonald’s seems to have a problem with unhappy people who prefer to use their fists to file complaints. Such was the case in DeKalb, Illinois, where yet another McDonald’s brawl broke out. Onlookers got to enjoy their Big Macs with a heaping side of McChaos and McMayhem as all McHell broke loose — and of course, it was all caught on must-see video.
The McDonald’s franchise is, sadly, no stranger to violence. The once favorite fast food restaurant for kids is now seeing an increase in fist-fights taking place at locations across the country. In fact, after a fight at a Nevada branch went viral, a similar scene that played out in Illinois made its way to the world wide web.
It was apparently just another day in DeKalb, Illinois, when things went horribly wrong at the local fast food restaurant. As a McDonald’s brawl was in full swing, at least one onlooker grabbed their cell phone to capture the unsightly scene on video. As the footage begins, the scuffle is already in full force with two women scrapping behind the counter.
Although it’s unclear what kicked off the violent episode, it’s obvious at least one unhappy woman has chosen to lodge whatever complaint she had against an employee with her fists. The shocking footage, which was later posted online, captured the two ladies amid a tussle, grabbing and punching each other.
As the two women engage in the fist-fight, bumping into metal equipment displayed at the front of the restaurant as they throw punches at one another, a man appears behind the counter to encourage the brawler. The man, who’s wearing a Chicago Bulls NBA jersey, is also seen shoving and barking expletives at another McDonald’s employee as she attempts to remove him from the work area.
Despite the employee’s best efforts to keep the man away from the women, he shoves her aside and approaches the fighting females, who are still scrapping with one another on the floor as other employees attempt to break up the brawl. Grabbing the hand of one of the women, who he appears to be familiar with, he drags her out from behind the counter while a McDonald’s employee manages to get her arms around his waist and pull him away from the area.
According to the Daily Mail, the woman drug out from behind the counter was a customer, but that may not be the case. Although it’s unclear, it appears the woman who left the fight with the man may have been an employee as well. Briefly, the camera seems to catch a glimmer on her chest that appears to be an employee nametag. However, it’s currently unconfirmed whether the McDonald’s brawl involved two female employees or an employee and a customer.
As the man continues to yell expletives, it appears he and the initially unidentified female are headed for the exit. “You hit a woman,” employees shout behind them as they leave the premises, to which he asks incredulously, “I hit you?” before adding, “F**k you, shorty.” The woman reminds him “it’s on camera” just before the footage cuts off.
Indeed, it’s all on camera. Although the culprits thought they got away with it, they found themselves in hot water over a month after the incident occurred when the footage began to go viral. A man and woman from DeKalb, identified as 30-year-old Corey Campbell and 24-year-old Jillian Tucker, were charged in connection with the fight at the fast food restaurant that was caught on video and posted online, according to WSPY News.
According to police, “Tucker confronted another woman behind the counter of the restaurant and struck the woman several times in the head. Police say Tucker also struck another person in the face as that person was trying to stop Tucker from striking the other woman,” WSPY News further reported. “Tucker’s boyfriend, Corey Campbell, was trying to keep people away from the fight and pushed a woman to the floor.” Tucker has since been charged with two counts of battery while Campbell was charged with a single count of battery.
It’s nice to hear that those involved were identified and held accountable for what they did. Although it might be briefly entertaining to watch, this behavior is completely unacceptable. The likelihood is that there were people in this restaurant trying to enjoy a meal with their children, who don’t need to be exposed to a McDonald’s brawl with their McNuggets. I’m sorry, but I’m not McLovin’ the thuggery coming out of what are supposed to be family-friendly establishments. It’s sad, and it’s time our justice system made an example out of those who resort to violence.
