When a dad uncovered inappropriate messages from a man sexually grooming his 12-year-old daughter, the protective father decided to lure the predator to a nearby park by pretending to be a young girl. However, as he later told the police, when he saw his daughter’s groomer, he immediately “saw red.”
Any loving father would be both devastated and enraged to find out that a grown man was looking at their preteen daughter in a romantic manner. So, when a 27-year-old dad in England checked his 12-year-old daughter’s phone and found sexually explicit messages between her and a strange man, the Lincolnshire man could think of nothing but getting the alleged predator alone.
The father, whose name has been withheld, read graphic back-and-forth messages, which made it clear that the predator knew how old the child was. In one particular exchange, the man allegedly told the preteen girl of his plan to get her pregnant.
Understandably, the father’s anger began to build as he read the vulgar messages directed at his little girl. It was then that he hatched a plan to meet up with the child groomer to ensure that he would never again go after an innocent child.
In a clever fashion, the father created a persona, pretending to be a young girl. He contacted the man and convinced him to meet up at Skegness’ Tower Gardens one evening, making sure the unsuspecting predator came alone. Once the man and his friend arrived, the father put his plan into action.
The father confronted the 18-year-old man who had been grooming his daughter, ultimately getting him to confess to talking to the child and having a picture of her on his phone, according to Lincolnshire Live. When the dad saw this, he grabbed the man’s phone and knocked him to the ground before punching, kicking, and stomping him in the head. Before leaving the park with his friend, he warned the brutally beaten man never to contact his daughter again.
The father told police that he “saw red” before beating the man to a pulp. Prosecutor Shelley Wilson says that the father “lost it” and admitted that he had “slapped him around the face” a bit after the alleged child predator claimed to have a picture of his daughter. She added that the angry dad snapped the man’s cell phone in half and threw it in a nearby trash bin to prevent him from using it again.
The father’s attorney, Phillippa Chatterton, explained that her client had first gone to the police and reported the alleged predator’s explicit conversations with his minor child. However, the police told him that it would be difficult to prosecute the man until something “actually happened.” Seeing that the authorities would be no help, the father arranged to meet the man to find out if it was really an 18-year-old individual or a pedophile gang.
The father was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and theft of a mobile phone. Although the alleged predator was not seriously injured, the father had used a shod foot, which refers to an assault that involves wearing shoes while kicking or stomping a victim, making his shoe a weapon.
The father appeared before the Boston Magistrates’ Court for a hearing concerning his charge. The magistrates told him that he could “not take the law into” his own hands, regardless of the situation. He was subsequently sentenced to 26 weeks in prison suspended for a year, meaning that he will not have to serve time behind bars. However, he has been ordered to pay the alleged predator $281 in fines and compensation.
Many see the father’s response as perfectly reasonable, arguing that he never should’ve been charged in the first place, especially since the police failed to act. Disturbingly, the alleged predator’s actions have not been investigated, as authorities affirm that he isn’t a criminal suspect unless he acts, even though he carried out a meeting with a person he believed to be a minor child.
