A dad went to pick up his one-year-old baby girl at his ex-wife’s house. While he was there, he borrowed her phone and discovered her sick secret — minutes later, the police got a phone call they couldn’t believe.
Jerrica Lackey is the lowest of the low, as her ex-husband would find out when the Tulsa, Oklahoma, father went to pick up the one-year-old daughter he shared with her. While at Lackey’s home, the dad asked to borrow the mother’s phone. That’s when he noticed something that certainly didn’t sit right with him.
The mother’s boyfriend was text messaging her on an app called Kik. When the unnamed father saw that Lackey had installed the Kik app on her phone, he was concerned since he knew the app had been associated with the exploitation of children. Following his gut instinct, he opened the app on Lackey’s device, but nothing could have prepared the dad for what he was about to see.
Lackey had been sending nude photos and videos to her boyfriend who lives in Florida. Disturbingly, they included images of the one-year-old daughter he and Lackey shared. The images and footage also revealed that his ex-wife had been sexually abusing their baby. Angry and disturbed, the father confronted Lackey who admitted to what she had done to their 16-month-old daughter.
The police then received a shocking call as Lackey confessed to 911 dispatchers that she had sexually abused her child and recorded videos to send to her new boyfriend in Florida. “I know initially when we got the call, we’re like that can’t be,” Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Casey Roebuck told KJRH.
“I mean that’s hard to even comprehend that a mother would do something like that to a child,” Roebuck added. Lackey and her boyfriend had been face-timing, and over the course of their relationship, he asked her to send pictures and videos of her baby and sex acts being performed.
The 29-year-old mother-of-three was arrested and charged with five counts of sexual abuse of a child younger than twelve. She was initially held in the Tulsa County Jail on $250,000 bond but has since been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison after she was convicted of sexual exploitation of a child.
“As part of a plea deal, Lackey pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a child under the age of 12, and in return, prosecutors agreed to drop one count of distribution of child pornography and one count of possession of child porn,” according to Daily Mail.
Following her arrest, her youngest daughter, the one whom she molested, was placed in the custody of her father. Lackey’s older two children were placed with other relatives. According to Roebuck, there are no signs that the other, older children, who appear to be boys by looking at Jerrica Lackey’s Facebook profile, were abused.
According to the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office, Lackey said she took the photos and videos because her boyfriend, whom she met on social media two months prior, convinced her to start touching her daughter. She also claimed that her long-distance boyfriend, later identified as John Marco, would get angry and “punish” her if she failed to send him videos of the abuse, so she used the Kik app to send them to him like he asked her to do.
Communicating using FaceTime and Kik, the mother would send photos and videos of herself molesting her daughter, sometimes using objects. According to the affidavit, one video showed the mother digitally penetrating the 16-month-old, Daily Mail reported. The most recent video had been sent earlier that day before the father came to pick the child up. The FBI is reportedly pursuing Lackey’s boyfriend in Florida, who could potentially face federal charges as well.
“We see her all the time outside with the babies, interacting with them, and she just didn’t seem like she would ever do that,” said neighbor Tymprance Melton, who witnessed Lackey’s arrest and told News 9 that she watched police pull into her driveway with guns drawn as they arrested the mother. “Just shocking, ’cause that’s our neighbor. Like I said, there’s babies here. Babies all around the neighborhood.”
Thank God this father borrowed the phone when he did and followed his gut. Had he not decided to take a look at the app, who knows how long this abuse could have continued or how much further it might have escalated. As for Lackey, 25 years hardly seems like enough time behind bars since her daughter will be dealing with the trauma her own mother caused for the rest of her life. This is a sobering reminder that you really can’t trust anyone, and if you are suspicious that something isn’t right, follow your instinct and check into it. This dad did, and it likely saved his daughter from so much worse than what she had already been through.
