Police officers were called to a wedding reception after some of the guests fell very ill and were transported to the hospital after a surprise from the smiling bride. However, investigating officers wiped the smirk off her face.

Weddings are such joyful events, and those who attend are expecting a celebration with great food and drink. However, that wasn’t the case at the Florida nuptials of Danya Shea Glenny Svoboda, who decided to hire a caterer who would go along with her “secret plan” that turned the wedding into a nightmare for the guests.

Danya Shea Glenny Svoboda convinced “holistic” caterer Joycelyn Bryant to lace the wedding reception food with marijuana and cannabis-based substances, unbeknownst to the guests. According to the Daily Mail, “Their plot was revealed after several of the guests were taken to the hospital in a panic. Some vomited profusely while others said their hearts were racing out of control.”

If that wasn’t bad enough, it was the bride’s “smirking” that was found to be so offensive as the police questioned her as her own guests were being taken to nearby hospitals. “Danya is shown smirking and struggling to speak as cops quiz her and her groom in bodycam footage,” Daily Mail reported. According to the Seminole County Sheriff’s office, multiple guests at the wedding fell very ill.

One man who called 911 said he “felt like he had drugs inside him,” and several guests told first responders the food they had eaten was laced with marijuana. Guests also said that they were terrified they were going to die on the night of the wedding. It all began with the dinner, where they chowed down on meatballs, lasagna, Caesar salad, tortellini, and bread with an olive oil and herb dip.

Soon afterward, guests started to feel “tingly” and noticed their hearts “racing.” One said he had “crazy thoughts” while another had to be sedated in the hospital because she was “unruly.” A third guest vomited profusely, police said. The Seminole County deputies on the scene saw the caterers “fleeing” to their vehicles with the food. In video footage, the deputies are heard telling the caterers they need to take dishes and food back inside.

“Yeah, don’t put anything away yet,” a deputy is heard saying. Deputies then asked the bride and groom if they authorized the caterers to use the drugs. “Apparently, supposedly, your food had cannabis inside it, did you guys authorize that?” one deputy asks. Dayna, the bride, raises an eyebrow then bites her lip but says nothing, allowing her groom to do the talking.

“I have no idea,” the groom responded, to which the deputy said, “I just need a yes or no, man.” The groom said no, and the bride shook her head. That’s when the deputy is heard explaining to the bride and groom the severity of the situation. “The fire department is seeing a few people up at the entrance that aren’t feeling good. We might be transporting more people to the hospital because of this,” he said.

All of the food evidence was gathered to be tested for illegal substances. Fast forward two months later, and the bride wasn’t smirking anymore as the Seminole Sheriff’s Department started making arrests. Dayna Shea Glenny Svoboda and her caterer, 31-year-old Joycelyn Bryant, were both arrested on felony charges of reckless tampering, culpable negligence, and possessing marijuana, WESH reported.

One of the drugged wedding guests has since spoken out. “I don’t know why, I think that is the biggest question on all of our minds in speaking with some of the family members. We want an explanation,” Miranda Cady said. “I thought I was having a heart attack. My heart was racing and before I went to bed that night, I actually slept in my car right on-site,” she furthered.

“I know so many of my friends wouldn’t want me speaking [to the media],” Cady declared. “But, I think it’s so important that people stand up for what’s right, and you have to respect other people’s free will and boundaries, and to have a choice in something like that.” Regardless of how they may feel about cannabis use, it seems most agree and believe that the bride’s foolhardy plan of lacing food with drugs, not knowing how it could adversely affect her guests, is immoral and a reckless criminal act.
